Kaylynn

Geil fourth grader. Kaylynn Harper, has given her classmates and the entire Geil Elementary community something special to look out for this winter. Her snowplow name, “Hungry Hungry Snoweater,” was selected as a winner in the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) statewide Name-A-Snowplow contest!

Kaylynn’s creative submission stood out among nearly 2,000 entries, earning her one of only 18 winning spots across Nebraska. Her snowplow will serve NDOT’s District 5, covering the Panhandle region, where it will be clearing roads and keeping travelers safe during winter storms.

Geil celebrated Kaylynn’s accomplishment with a school-wide assembly Friday, December 6th. Principal Angela Morris highlighted the significance of the contest and encouraged students to keep an eye out for Kaylynn’s plow once the snow starts falling. “When you see snowplows out this winter,” she told students, “you might just spot ‘Hungry Hungry Snoweater’ making its rounds!”

NDOT representative, John Lutz, joined the celebration to explain how snowplows work and shared tips for families to track named snowplows online using NDOT’s 511 Plow Tracker. As a special treat, Kaylynn’s fourth-grade classmates were invited to an outdoor tour of the plow, getting an up-close look at its features and learning about its operations directly from the NDOT crew.

Congratulations to Kaylynn for this unique honor, and thank you for putting Gering Public Schools on the map—literally—this winter! Keep an eye out for “Hungry Hungry Snoweater” as it clears the way for safe travels across the Panhandle.
