[September 20, 2024 - Gering, NE]– Gering Public Schools is proud to announce that Tyler Thompson, an English teacher at Gering High School, has been named a 2024 High School Teacher of Excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Nebraska English Language Arts Council (NELAC).
Thompson, a Gering graduate who has worked for the district since 2008, is well-regarded for his dedication to both his students and his craft. In addition to teaching English, he coaches the school’s successful speech team, consistently encouraging his students to reach their full potential.
His nomination emphasized his commitment to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment:

Thompson will receive his award at the NCTE Annual Convention on November 23, 2024, in Champaign, Illinois, joining a select group of educators from across the country.
“We’re thrilled for Tyler and grateful for the impact he’s had on our students,” shared Mario Chavez, Principal of Gering High School. “This recognition is well-deserved, and we’re excited to see him honored on a national stage.”
