Directory Information

Directory information is defined as information contained in a student's education record that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. More information can be seen in the following video from the U.S. Department of Education:

At Gering Public Schools, directory information includes:

  • Name

  • Address (local, permanent, electronic mail)

  • Telephone listings

  • Photograph

  • Attendance

  • Grade level

  • Enrollment status

  • Date and place of birth

  • Participation in officially recognized activities and sports

  • Weight and height of members of athletic teams

  • Degree and awards received

  • Most recent previous educational agency or institute attended

At GPS, we use Directory Information for educational purposes including yearbooks, bus routes, programs for events, educational merits,  school-related media posts, educational apps, and other educational publications.

A parent or eligible student has the right to refuse to let Gering Public Schools designate any or all of those types of information about the student as directory information.  A written notice of refusal must be received by our Central Administration within two weeks from the point Gering Public Schools recieved the original information.  Central Administration is located at 1519 10th Street, Gering NE.
