Board Members
Members serve four-year terms, and receive no compensation for their work. The Gering BOE has several functions:
Establishes policies for the district;
Sets short and long-term goals for the school system;
Selects and evaluates the superintendent of schools;
Holds the superintendent accountable for accomplishing district goals;
Works closely with the administrators, school staff, and the community to set district goals.
They must also act within the framework of rules set forth by the Nebraska State Board of Education and Nebraska and federal laws.
